چکیده

In a two orbital double exchange model we formulate Jahn-Teller coupled charge density wave in half-filled limit. Softening of Jahn-Teller phonons corresponding to distortion modes Q2 or Q3 associated with perfect nesting of Fermi surface leads to this instability at low temperature. The gap equation for charge density wave state and its dependences on electron-lattice coupling are calculated explicitly when any one of the Jahn-Teller modes is excited cooperatively. We find that the Q2 distortion mode yields lowest free energy. The calculated heat capacity for each mode shows T 3 behavior at low temperature. Effect of electron-lattice interaction on collective mode, such as amplitude mode, is more pronounced when the excited mode is Q2. ∗ e-mail: [email protected]

Effect of disorder in an orbitally ordered Jahn-Teller insulator

We study a two-dimensional, two-band double-exchange model for eg electrons coupled to Jahn-Teller distortions in the presence of quenched disorder using a recently developed Monte Carlo technique. In the absence of disorder the half-filled system at low temperatures is an orbitally ordered ferromagnetic insulator with a staggered pattern of Jahn-Teller distortions. We examine the finite-temper...

Stripes induced by orbital ordering in layered manganites.

Spin-charge-orbital ordered structures in doped layered manganites are investigated using an orbital-degenerate double-exchange model tightly coupled to Jahn-Teller distortions. In the ferromagnetic phase, unexpected diagonal stripes at x = 1/m ( m = integer) are observed, as in recent experiments. These stripes are induced by the orbital degree of freedom, which forms a staggered pattern in th...

Metal-Insulator Transition in Mn Perovskite Compounds

We discuss Mott insulating and metallic phases of a model with eg orbital degeneracy to understand physics of Mn perovskite compounds. Quantum Monte Carlo and Lanczos diagonalization results are discussed in this model. To reproduce experimental results on charge gap and Jahn-Teller distortions, we show that a synergy between the strong correlation effects and the Jahn-Teller coupling is import...

Berryonic Matter in the Cuprates

A novel form of Jahn-Teller (JT) effect in the cuprates can be reinterpreted as a conventional JT effect on a lattice with a larger unit cell. There is a triplet of instabilities, parametrized by a pseudospin, consisting of a form of the low-temperature tetragonal phase, a charge density wave phase, and a flux phase (orbital antiferromagnet). On a single 4-Cu plaquette, the problem is of E ⊗ (b...

Domain formation and orbital ordering transition in a doped Jahn-Teller insulator.

The ground state of a double-exchange model for orbitally degenerate e(g) electrons with Jahn-Teller lattice coupling and weak disorder is found to be spatially inhomogeneous near half filling. Using a real-space Monte Carlo method we show that doping the half-filled orbitally ordered insulator leads to the appearance of hole-rich disordered regions in an orbitally ordered environment. The dopi...
